Once again, luxury cars adorned by SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL; and this time, it is much more glitter, shiny and blinking than the 30,000 Swarovsky crystals on Lexus Sports Car exhibited in Taiwan, December 2008. A popular car accessory company GARSON / D.A.D has applied 300,000 Austrian certified Swarovsky crystals on each of Mercedes Benz SL600 – one in gold and the other in silver – to make them the star of the Tokyo Auto Salon 2010.

This year’s event in Tokyo is the second appearance of the silver MILLION DOLLAR MERCEDES BENZ SL600 after its first inauguration last year. It is said the custom car has been sold to PRINCE AL WALEED OF SAUDI ARABIA for US $4.8 million. But the rumor, of course, needs to be rechecked.

Invented and patented by Daniel Swarovski in 1892, the precision-cut crystal glasses made through the energy-intensive grinding process have been applied into many ranges of products including crystal sculptures and miniatures, jewelry and couture, home décor and chandeliers. In order to create a crystal that allows light to refract in a rainbow spectrum, SWAROVSKI AG of Wattens, Austria – the company founded in 1895 by Armand Kosman and Franz Weis – coats some of its crystals with special metallic chemical coatings. One of the most popular coatings is Aurora Borealis or “AB” which gives the surface a rainbow oil slick appearance. Other coatings include Crystal Transmission, Volcano, Aurum, and Dorado. A new copyrighted cut, released in 2004, Xilion is able to optimize the brilliance of Roses (crystal components with flat backs) and Chatons (diamond cut).

To decorate the gullwing (upward-opening doors) roadster, the artisans have shaped each Swarovsky crystal into a diamond and then glued it onto the exterior and interior of the car. It took 3 months to complete each “bling-bling” Mercedez-Benz worth JP¥ 40,000,000 (approximately USD 442,311.52).
