Teamed up with ARSENAL players, the world famous artist GERALD SCARFE contributes his artwork to create a unique ULTIMATE ARSENAL FAN’S CAR based on Citroën C4. By buying the raffled ticket, you have a chance to win the car as well as to help raise fund for Arsenal’s Charity of the season, TEENAGE CANCER TRUST.

The English cartoonist and illustrator Gerald Anthony Scarfe is best known for his work as editorial cartoonist for the Sunday Times and illustrator for the New Yorker. He provided caricatures of Paul Eddington for the opening and closing sequences of Yes Minister, a satirical British sitcom in the 1980’s.  He was also the man behind the famous album cover THE WALL of PINK FLOYD in 1979. Upon his dedication, Gerald Scarfe has been named one of the 40 most influential journalists by Press Gazette on 2005. The next year, he was awarded ‘Cartoonist of the Year’ at the British Press Awards 2006; and in the 2008 Birthday Honours, Gerald Scarfe was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

At the hatchback of the Arsenal Citroen C4, GERALD SCARFE provides the caricatures of Arsenal Manager ARSENE WENGER and players GAEL CLICHY, MANUEL ALMUNIA and ROBIN VAN PERSIE. In designing the car, Scarfe noted the ideas of the players who shared their thought and ideas around Club culture, legends and what they felt it meant to be part of the Arsenal, plus 17-year-old Harriet Eldridge who was diagnosed with cancer when she was 14 and is now involved with Teenage Cancer Trust.

Speaking at the launch, May 5th 2009, Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, whose father is an artist, said:

“This is something different for us to be involved in and although we all play for the same team, we had very different ideas which can be seen throughout the car’s design.  Manuel spoke of Club heritage, I had the idea of pace and style, and Gael had an all together different idea about ‘planet Arsenal!’ I guess that’s what’s wonderful about art and this car in particular; we all had our part to play and our own distinctive ideas.
I hope it appeals to supporters and ensures they keep up their amazing fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust. I hope they buy lots of tickets to try to win it!”

Artist and cartoonist, Gerald Scarfe said:

“I was delighted when Teenage Cancer Trust asked me to be involved with this project. Meeting Harriet, who had cancer when she was 14, underlined for me the importance of this excellent charity, and getting together with the players and learning about Arsenal’s rich heritage helped to inspire my designs for the car.
I hope that fans will be queuing up to buy tickets to win this unique car, helping the Club to raise as much money as possible for Teenage Cancer Trust. The work that the charity is doing for young people with cancer is invaluable and so important in giving them the chance to fight this disease.”

For 2008/2009 the Gunners are supporting Teenage Cancer Trust - a charity devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer. Over the course of the season, through the ‘Be A Gooner. Be A Giver.’ campaign, the Gunners aim to raise £300,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust. This will enable the charity to increase its support for teenagers and young adults with cancer in the London area by building a unit within a brand new Day Care Centre at University College Hospital, London.

The French automotive manufacturer Citroën was founded in 1919 by André Citroën; it was the world’s first mass-production car company outside of the USA. Since 1976 it has been part of PSA Peugeot Citroën, and its headquarters is on rue Fructidor, Paris. Originally a mass-market car maker with relatively straightforward designs, Citroën shocked the world in 1934 with the innovative Traction Avant, the world’s first mass-production front wheel drive car. Other significant models include the H Van, the 2CV, the DS and the CX.
